Greetings, Midland Families!
I am so excited to welcome everyone back to campus for the first day of a new school year! The start of a new year is always filled with excitement, opportunity, new friendships, and learning experiences.
Our entire staff has been working hard to prepare for your children's arrival, and we can't wait to welcome our students back to campus. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive.
We look forward to seeing all of our students on Thursday for an awesome first day of school!

To help make BTSN as accessible and convenient as possible for our families, childcare will be available during the event. We hope this additional support allows families to participate and make the most of this important tradition.
We are excited to introduce a new opportunity for our Midland families! Please join us for our Successful Rattler Family Night on Thursday, August 27, at 5:30 in the MPR.
This evening is designed to strengthen the partnership between home and school by helping families connect with our staff, learn more about the supports available at Midland, and explore practical strategies to promote both academic success and overall student well-being. We'll also share community and school resources, along with simple ways families can support learning and help every child thrive.
We hope you'll join us for an informative and welcoming evening. We look forward to connecting with you and working together to make this a successful year for every Rattler!

Last school year, our Midland community accomplished something truly worth celebrating! Thanks to the incredible partnership between our school and our families, we reduced our chronic absenteeism rate by 76%. This achievement reflects what we can accomplish when we work together to support our students.
This important work continues as we begin a new school year. Our focus is on making every morning a great start by reducing tardies with our rallying cry: "Midland Is On Time, Every Time!"
Our goal is to partner with you to help every child arrive at school on time, every day, ready to learn. A positive day begins with a positive start, and being on time helps students maximize learning, build routines, and feel connected from the moment they walk through our doors.

The Midland Educational Foundation (MEF) is our school's parent-led nonprofit, and we're excited to kick off the new school year with our Red Envelope Drive, running August 12 -September 4.
The Red Envelope Drive helps fund programs, enrichment opportunities, and classroom resources that go beyond the district budget, from PE, STEM, music, and art to everyday classroom needs that make Midland special.
We'll share all the details about how to participate when we see you in person! Stop by the Foundation table at Meet the Teacher and Back to School Night to learn more, ask questions, and meet the team behind the Midland Educational Foundation.
We can't wait to kick off another great year together!
To help make the first days of school as smooth as possible, the Health Office will be offering early medication drop-off on the following dates:
Early Medication Drop-Off
- Monday, August 10: 10 AM – 2:00 PM
- Tuesday, August 11: 10 AM – 2:00 PM
- Wednesday. August 12: 11 AM - 2:00 PM
We encourage families whose children require medication at school to take advantage of these early drop-off times, as the first days of school are typically very busy.
Please bring the following when dropping off medication:
- A completed Authorization for Medication Administration form signed by your child's physician: https://4.files.edl.io/3ca8/04/17/24/174832-6b5ed6fa-e219-4823-803d-5f8df2f8150c.pdf
- Medication that is not expired and is in its original, labeled container
If you have any questions or need a copy of the authorization form, please don't hesitate to contact the school office.

The safety of our students is always our highest priority. To help ensure a smooth, safe, and successful start to the school year, please take a few moments to review our arrival and dismissal procedures. Your partnership in following these expectations helps create a positive experience for all students and families.
Morning Arrival:
- Breakfast (free for all students): Students eating breakfast may enter campus beginning at 7:15 a.m.
- Grades 1 to 5: Students in grades 1–5 should enter campus through the playground gate near the lunch tables. Supervised playground access begins at 7:25 a.m.
- TK & Kindergarten: TK and Kindergarten students should enter through Gate A, located near the Administration Building. If an older sibling is assisting with a TK or Kindergarten drop-off, they may also enter through Gate A.
Parking Lot & Drop-Off Safety:
The first few weeks of school are our busiest, and we appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation.
- Please use the designated crosswalks when walking through the parking lot. Modeling safe habits for our students is one of the best ways we can teach them the importance of safety.
- If you are dropping off your child by car, please use the designated drop-off zone near the ESS building and follow all posted traffic signs and directions from staff. Staying in the designated drop-off area helps keep traffic moving efficiently and ensures the safety of our students, families, and staff.
Afternoon Dismissal:
- TK & Kindergarten: Students will be dismissed from Gate A. Kindergarten follows a hand-to-hand dismissal procedure, meaning students will only be released to an approved adult listed in our records. We appreciate your patience during the first few weeks of school as our teachers get to know each family and become familiar with authorized adults.
- First Grade: Students will meet their families at Gate B, located just to the left of the Administration Building.
- Second through Fifth Grade: Students in grades 2–5 will be dismissed from Gate C, the large playground gate.
At Midland Elementary, we are committed to creating a focused, engaging, and positive learning environment for all students. As a reminder, Midland supports the “Away for the Day” expectation for personal smartphones and smartwatches.
If students bring these devices to school, they are expected to keep them stored in their backpacks until the end of the school day. This helps minimize distractions and supports student learning, social interaction, and engagement throughout the day.

At Midland Elementary, we believe that strong partnerships between home and school are built on trust, communication, and a shared commitment to our students' success. If you ever have a question, concern, or need clarification about something happening at school, we encourage you to reach out to us first.
Your child's teacher is always the best first point of contact for classroom-related questions. Our school counselor and administrative team are also here to listen, answer questions, and work collaboratively with you to address any concerns. We are always happy to schedule a time to meet, learn more about your perspective, and work together toward a positive resolution.
While social media can be a helpful way to connect with others, it may not always provide accurate information or allow us the opportunity to address concerns directly. We value open, respectful communication and appreciate the opportunity to partner with you first so we can best support your child and our entire Midland community.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we know how much you care about your child’s educational experience and want what’s best for them, something we deeply value and share.
Each spring, our teachers and administrators work collaboratively to thoughtfully create balanced classroom rosters. This is a careful and intentional process that considers many factors, including students' academic, social, and emotional needs, learning styles, and classroom dynamics. Our goal is to create learning environments where every child has the opportunity to be successful and thrive.
Because class placement is such a comprehensive process, Midland Elementary does not accept or honor requests for specific teachers. We have complete confidence in every member of our teaching staff and are committed to ensuring that each student is placed in a classroom where they can grow, learn, and be supported throughout the school year.
We appreciate your trust in our team and ask that you continue to partner with us in supporting your child’s growth and success.
