ESS Enrollment Information:

Thank you so much for your interest in Midland's ESS program!

Effective the 2024-2025 school year, new applications to the ESS program are centrally managed by the District Office, Before/After School Department through a single application and interest list.

Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment in ESS. It is anticipated that the demand for ESS services may exceed the program capacity at most schools.

Applicants are accepted into the program based on a state implemented priority criteria system outlined on ESS webpage, up to the capacity for each school's program.

ESS Overview

Hours - Midland E.S.S. is open daily, Monday - Friday, 1:45 PM - 6:00 PM, we open at 12:00 PM to serve only our TK students due to early release. On summer and non-school days, our hours of
operation are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Mission Statement - "E.S.S. is a bridge between school and home where children are encouraged to learn, create, and explore within their school, community, and world."

Program Overview - The Extended Student Services Program provides safe, engaging and fun environments and experiences to help children develop their social, emotional and physical skills. ESS is
staffed by qualified leadership and trained program aides who provide a comprehensive
program of developmentally appropriate activities.

Voluntary Use Program - ESS is a voluntary-use program. Our organization works diligently to accommodate and serve families in need of after-school care. Enrollment in Midland Elementary school does not guarantee enrollment in the ESS program; separate enrollment is required to participate.

Program History - The E.S.S. program began in 1980 and is now offered in every elementary school in the Poway Unified School District. All children who attend elementary school in the district are eligible to enroll.

Program Activities - Quiet academic enrichment time is provided for children to work on homework or school
assignments or to participate in an educational activity. ESS provides a dedicated time and space for academic enrichment opportunities. However, if homework or school assignments are given, the ultimate responsibility for their completion lies with the student and their parents. After the dedicated academic enrichment time, children have many activities to choose from, including social-emotional learning activities, group games, books, music, and arts and crafts.
